Points Of Authority
The financial crisis, which was triggered in the U.S.A through mass mortgage collapses and the crash of Lehman Bros in 2008, continues to devastate Europe. Weaker economies are severely affected by this domino of economic instability. This project is an attempt to comment on the corrupt European banking system by focusing on the financial vein of the City of London. The City of London represents worldwide banking corporations. These anonymous, undemocratic institutions contribute to the European poverty agenda but are utterly removed from those who are suffering the consequences.
With this project I invite the viewer to question what are the real causes of the crisis and to consider those who benefit. Is it a financial crisis, or a crisis of capitalism?
This project is a small fragment of my major for the MA Photographic Studies at the university of Westminster that I completed in 2015. Since then it has been published in the Guardian art section and has been exhibited in the MedPhoto Festival in Rethymno, Greece in 2018.
